Plastic Varnish

• Instead of Plastic Varnish, consider Rosco's Clear Acrylic Flat, -or- Premiere Clear Flat (dries hard).

This Vinyl copolymer Sealer/Binder/Extender, may be used like a clear acrylic on stage floors, scenery, exhibits, costumes, masks, properties and crafts.  Plastic Varnish was designed to be extended with water for large area coverage (up to 1200 feet² on non-porous surfaces!).  It dries clear unless colorant is added and wet edges blend easily with no bubbles or overlapping milky streaks.

Plastic Varnish Flat creates a "dead" flat finish, eliminates lighting angle sheen and is ideal for video and film work.  Creates a tough flat finish even capable of reducing sheen on an underlying shiny surface.

Plastic Varnish Gloss creates a tough gloss finish on all types of surfaces.  For a semi-gloss finish, mix with Sculptural Arts Coating's Plastic Varnish Flat.  Create beautiful glazes for faux marble, trompe l'oeil techniques, antiquing, and more!

• CoverageApproximately 350 feet² per gallon, depending on the porosity of the surface.  On non-porous surfaces 1 gallon may cover up to 1200 feet².
• TintingTint with Artist's Choice Saturated paints, acrylics, temperas, universal tints or dyes.
• ThinningDesigned to be diluted, however thinning too much may reduce the flatening effect!

  • Stage FloorsFor smooth surfaces mix 1:2 (Varnish:Water), other surfaces mix 1:1.
  • WallsMix 1:3 (Varnish:Water) to seal and enhance colors
  • GlazesMix 3:1:1 (Varnish:Water:Colorant)
• Surface PreparationAll surfaces must be clean and free of oil, wax, dust, scaling paint, rust and other contaminates.  Surfaces should be completely dry prior to application.
• ApplicationPlastic Varnish may be applied by brush, roller, pad applicator, sponge or sprayer.  Stir thoroughly.
• Average Dry TimeUnder normal conditions, dries in minutes.  Walkable after 2 hours.  Non-tack (hardest finish) after 3-4 days.  Low temperatures, high humidity, poor ventilation, may increase drying time.  DO NOT STICK ON ADHESIVE TAPES UNTIL SURFACES ARE TOTALLY CURED.
• Clean-upSoap and water
• CAUTIONSUse adequate ventilation.  Close container after each use.  Do not apply when surface or air temperature is below 45F.  Store between 50F - 100F.  Do not take internally.  Avoid breathing Spray mist.  Keep from freezing.  KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.  DO NOT MIX THIS WATER BASED VARNISH WITH OIL.
